  • Hurricane Harvey - Disaster Relief Update

Hurricane Harvey Relief – Update 09/07/2017

God calls His followers to minister to others in need.  The catastrophic storm and continuing tragedy of Hurricane Harvey has truly touched the hearts of RHCC members and the surrounding community.  Here is a quick update on what has been done thru RHCC so far but.  Many have been called to prayer and action.

RHCC has received and is distributing over $8,000 of designated giving.  More is still coming in and it’s not too late to give if God has put a call on your heart.  Your Outreach work area has been charged with deciding where funds designated as “Hurricane Relief” will be distributed.  Input from the congregation and the Administrative Board will be prayerfully considered.

A Hurricane Harvey “Faith in Action” weekend was quickly organized at Sun Hardware and Dollar General on Labor Day weekend.  Volunteers manned donation tables, gave interested shoppers Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) wish lists, and brought all donations received to the RHCC-Fellowship Hall to be staged for delivery.  Some in our community just gave money.

On Sunday, a lady gave one of our volunteers $2.75.  The woman shared  that she was out of work, taking care of her out-of-work sister and distraught that she couldn’t offer more.  The parable of the Widow’s Mite played out before the eyes of those present.

A community wide call was posted on local FaceBook pages announcing that RHCC was acting as an ADRN donation depot.  Specific items benefitting Evacuees being sheltered from the storm were requested.  RHCC members accepted drop-off donations at the door of the Fellowship Hall two afternoons of Labor Day Weekend.

The items collected from these two events, organized thru the combined efforts of two work-areas within RHCC were delivered this week to ADRN.  One of our workers estimated the donations exceeded 100 c.f. of gift cards, new towels/bedding, personal care/cleaning supplies, buckets/mops, and much more.

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”  Thessalonians 5: 16-18

  • The Seven Churches of Revelation

Sunday Night Bible Study - 9 week study taught by Chris Reighley - starts 9/17

When Jesus Christ sent messages to seven first-century churches, they were timely and accurate.  But 2,000 years later, in the twenty first century, those messages can help us and our churches as well.  Their primary meaning can have personal application for our lives.  But those seven letters also have an uncanny prophetic significance.  Viewed in hindsight, the seven letters seem to chart the historical unfolding of the Christian Church from then until now.  This study guide, "The Seven Letters of Revelation", focuses primarily on Christ's commendations and criticisms of the seven churches in Asia Minor.
